Q: What is the main function of the Lawrence County Trustee?
A: The collection of property taxes.

Q: What are the collection dates of my property taxes?
A: October 1st through the following February 28th without penalty.

Q: When is my property tax late?
A: March 1st, penalty and interest of 1 1/2% per month is added to
delinquent taxes.

Q: Can I make payment by mail?
A: Yes, payment of taxes may be made by mail. Please show your billing receipt number on your check. Postmark date determines payment date.

Q: Can I pay my current taxes before I pay my delinquent taxes?
A: No, delinquent taxes must be paid before current taxes can be paid.

Q: Will delinquent taxes cause a lien on my property?
A: Yes, delinquent taxes are a lien on the property regardless of
ownership.

Q: What if I didn't receive a tax notice?
A: Tax notices are sent out each year as a public service to taxpayers. The failure to receive a notice does not excuse late or non-payment.

Q: What if my mailing address changes?
A: Current mailing address is the responsibility of the property owner who must notify the Assessor of Property.

A: Q: Is there any tax relief for the elderly or disabled?
Yes, the State of Tennessee has a tax relief program. Information is available from both the Trustee's Office and any city tax collection office during the time period of October through February.
